Karen Katz Elected Perot Museum Board Chair for 2020-2021

DALLAS (December 7, 2020) –During its final 2020 board meeting, the Perot Museum of Nature and Science Board of Directors elected Karen Katz as its chair for the 2020-2021 fiscal year. Katz succeeds Mac McFarland who led the Board for the past two years. The Board also named David R. Corrigan as chair-elect for the 2020-2021 fiscal year. Corrigan has served on the Museum board and in key roles for nearly 16 years.

Katz is former president and CEO of the Neiman Marcus Group, one of the world’s leading luxury and fashion retailers. During her 33-year tenure and eight years as CEO, she led the company and its 15,000 associates through its digital transformation, presiding over an extended period of growth, innovation and unparalleled excellence.

Perot Museum Wins IMLS Grant For STEM Education

DALLAS (October 22, 2020) – The Perot Museum of Nature and Science was recently awarded a $496,860 grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) as part of its IMLS CARES Act Grants program to support the role of museums and libraries in responding to the coronavirus pandemic.

IMLS received 1,701 applications requesting $409.2 million and awarded a total of $13.8 million to 68 organizations. Less than 4% nationally of all applications were funded, and the Perot Museum’s award was among the largest, with $500,000 being the maximum. Only two Texas institutions – the Perot Museum and the Texas Historical Commission – and just eight U.S. science museums were selected for the grants.

Perot Museum Teams Up with African American Museum, Dallas, For Staircase Spotlight

DALLAS (September 30, 2020) – In partnership with the African American Museum, Dallas, the Perot Museum of Nature and Science has announced a call for entries for a staircase commission to create a vibrantly colored and eye-catching site-specific creative design that celebrates African-American leaders in science – from history and modern day – who have made significant contributions to STEM (science, technology, engineering and math). The Staircase Project is presented by Kroger. 

To spotlight the artistic talent in the Dallas/Fort Worth region, the Perot Museum will commission an African-American creative designer who resides in North Texas to design the image.

Perot Museum To Reopen

DALLAS (September 09, 2020) – With the safety of guests, staff and volunteers a top priority, the Perot Museum of Nature and Science will reopen its doors Saturday (Sept. 12) and Sunday (Sept. 13) with new public-health protocols, ticketing procedures, reduced hours and occupancy at no more than 25%.

Commencing the next weekend (Sept. 18), the Museum will then operate Fridays-Sundays for the foreseeable future. To ensure the best experience during preferred times and to manage capacity, guests are strongly encouraged to purchase timed-entry tickets now on sale in advance at perotmuseum.org.

Perot Museum Announces Plans to Reopen Thursday, July 9

DALLAS (June 18, 2020) – With the safety of guests, staff and volunteers a top priority, the Perot Museum of Nature and Science will reopen its doors Thursday, July 9, with new public-health protocols and ticketing procedures in place. To ensure the best experience during preferred times and to manage capacity, guests are strongly encouraged to purchase timed-entry tickets online and in advance at perotmuseum.org. Tickets will go on sale July 1.

Arctic Edmontosaurus Lives Again – Perot Museum Paleontologists Give A New Look at the "Caribou of the Cretaceous"

DALLAS (May 6, 2020) – A new study by an international team from the Perot Museum of Nature and Science in Dallas, Hokkaido University and Okayama University of Science in Japan further explores the proliferation of the most commonly occurring duck-billed dinosaur of the ancient Arctic as the genus Edmontosaurus. The findings also reinforce that the hadrosaurs – known as the “caribou of the Cretaceous” – had a huge geographical distribution of approximately 60 degrees of latitude, spanning the North American West from Alaska to Colorado.

Perot Museum to Present COVID-19 "Science Spotlight" Panel Discussion Sunday (March 15) at 2 p.m.; Experts from Dallas County Health and Human Services, Dallas ISD, Children's Health and More to Share Latest Updates

DALLAS (March 12, 2020) – The Perot Museum of Nature and Science will live stream its first  “Science Spotlight” event on COVID-19 Sunday, March 15, at 2 p.m. in the Museum’s auditorium. The session will feature subject matter experts from the medical and civic fields operating at the forefront of the Novel Coronavirus Disease 2019 here in North Texas. They will present the latest updates and medical implications on the virus along with precautionary recommendations to help contain its spread. A Q&A session will follow the panels.

2020: The Science Behind Pixar Exhibition to Make Its Texas Debut April 25, Last Chance to See the World-Exclusive Origins Exhibition Closing March 22, a New 60-Foot Caving Simulation and More Make the Perot Museum a Must-Do This Spring

DALLAS (March 6, 2020) – Buzz Lightyear, Mike and Sulley, Dory, WALL•E and more are headed to the Perot Museum of Nature and Science this spring when The Science Behind Pixar exhibition takes guests to infinity and beyond with its Texas debut April 25. But before it does, the world-exclusive Origins: Fossils from the Cradle of Humankind exhibition enters its final weeks as authentic ancient human relative fossils of two recently unearthed species – named top discoveries of the last decade by National Geographic and Smithsonian Magazine – return to their permanent home in South Africa after the March 22 closing. Also through March 22, the new CaveSim will give guests a chance to learn caving skills as they navigate a 60-foot simulated cave – a challenging excursion for all ages that teaches STEM concepts and environmental conservation.
