Perot Museum Of Nature And Science Team Discovers New Dinosaur Species In Grapevine

DALLAS (November 1, 2023) – The Perot Museum of Nature and Science is celebrating the exciting discovery of a new dinosaur species found in North Texas. Perot Museum paleontologists Dr. Ron Tykoski and Dr. Dori Contreras, along with Dr. Chrisopher Noto of the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, identified the new species Ampelognathus coheni, publishing their findings in the Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology. The discovery of the small, plant eating dinosaur is based on a partial lower jaw bone found near Grapevine Lake in Grapevine, Texas. The two-inch-long fossil from the lower left jaw is now curated in the collections of the Perot Museum.

DALLAS (September 21, 2023) – The Perot Museum of Nature and Science has announced Caroline Im as the Museum’s new Director of Gems and Minerals. Im will manage and oversee all aspects of the Perot Museum’s esteemed gems and minerals program, as well as the Lyda Hill Gems and Minerals Hall. With extensive expertise and passion for Earth sciences, Im will lead the Museum into a new era of excellence in mineralogy, one that will seek to engage new and diverse audiences through its comprehensive and unique ‘loan vs. own’ collection.

Perot Museum Partners with Carnegie Institution for Science to Host Extraordinary Eclipse Events

DALLAS (September 12, 2023) – As Dallas prepares to encounter a pair of historic astronomical events, the Perot Museum of Nature and Science is proud to join forces with the Carnegie Institution for Science. The organizations are partnering to host two special events encouraging North Texans to safely experience both the annular solar eclipse on October 14, 2023, and the Great North American Eclipse on April 8, 2024.
