A SUMMER OF STEM AWAITS!

Ignite your child’s curiosity this summer with hands-on learning and discovery. From paleontology to space to chemistry and more, each of our diverse STEM themes are designed to inspire the next generation of innovators and explorers.

In addition to camps held at Perot Museum, this summer we are excited to offer a limited number of camps held at the Trinity River Audubon Center through a special partnership. Give your kids a summer of real discovery through immersive STEM learning and outdoor exploration.

 

Tickets will go on sale February 9 for Perot Museum Explore members and above, and February 12 for the public. 

 

Camps at Perot Museum

Camps at Perot Museum are held Monday-Friday, 9am-3pm.

Grades K-6: Grade-level groups correspond to the grade your child will enter in the upcoming fall semester.

FOSSILS

June 8-13
Grades K-4

Join fellow Discovery Campers for a hands-on week all about fossils! Explore where fossils are found, learn the difference between dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures, and discover the tools that paleontologists use to study them. Get ready to dig in and test your fossil knowledge of prehistoric life!

SPORTS

June 15-18 (reduced price)
Grades K-4

Jump into an action-packed four-day week about the science of sports! Can you improve the speed of your reflexes?  Can you master the rules of a new game? Discover what materials make up the inside of a baseball. Explore the multitudes of STEM careers that help athletes perform at their best. Join the team and get ready to play!

TECH

June 22-26
Grades 1-6

Techies unite! Join us for a fun-filled week of coding basics and foundational technology at Discovery Camp. Discover the inner workings of everyday technology and uncover the hidden places where circuitry and coding connect. Write your own “how to” code. With tech inspired activities and interactive coding games, put your debugging skills to the test!

SPACE

June 29-July 3
Grades K-4

Get ready for an out-of-this-world adventure! Your mission: to discover the wonders of the universe. Do you think we will live on the Moon or Mars? Compete in epic astronaut challenges. How does studying space help us back here on Earth? From rockets to rovers, this week is packed with cosmic fun and big questions about the universe.

CHEMISTRY

July 6-10
Grades 1-6

H2O, lets go! This compound of two hydrogens and one oxygen is required for every living thing on Earth. How do we keep it clean? Could it ever run out? Mix up some science, test the pH, and drink up the solutions! From the basics of water to the coldest wonders of liquid nitrogen get ready to freeze and fizz during this week of chemical reactions!

 

ENGINEERING

July 13-17
Grades K-4

Get ready to think like an engineer! In Engineering Week you will design, build, and test bridges, boats, and buildings. Using the Engineering Design Process, you’ll tackle real-world challenges with creative problem-solving. From blueprints to breakthroughs, experience the exciting world of engineering and discover all the ways it shapes our world!

MUSEUM

July 20-24
Grades 1-6

A Perot Museum exclusive! Take a peek into the heart of our Museum – our education collection. Discover how our specimens are collected and curated. Space is limited so what items make the cut? Track the timeline of making a new exhibit from ideation to display and meet the staff behind the scenes who make it happen. Apply what you’ve learned to create your own mini exhibit. What story will you tell?

MEDICAL

July 27-31
Grades K-4

Join us for Medical Week, where you’ll explore the amazing body systems that keep you moving, thinking, and growing. Learn about your organs and how they function, investigate the healthcare careers and discover ways to stay healthy. Answer the age-old question: did you REALLY wash your hands? Put on your lab coat and discover the doctor in you!

BIOLOGY

August 3-7
Grades K-4

During Biology Week, explore everything from tiny cells to towering ecosystems. Investigate animals, plants, and the systems that connect them. What can taxidermy teach us? What is so cool about yeast? This week will inspire a love of the natural world from inside the classroom.

FAQs - Camps at Perot Museum

  1. What is the registration cost for attending a Discovery Camp?

    Each five-day camp is $425 per child.

    Perot Museum Members at the Explore level and above receive a discounted rate ($375), as well as early access to purchase before going on sale to the general public.

    After-care (optional) is an additional cost of $75, per child. (After-care is not discounted for Perot Museum members)

    Note: SPORTS camp, taking place June 15-18, is offered at a reduced rate of $340 (Explore members and above – $300).

  2. How can I find out which camps are filled?

    Online camp ticket availability will be updated regularly. If you register by phone, the attendant can provide up-to-date enrollment information.

    Waitlist requests will be provided for each sold-out camp. Requests are not guaranteed. If a spot becomes available, you will be contacted by email.

  3. May I register my child for an older age group?

    In alignment with child development recommendations, we strictly enforce grade-level grouping. For summer camps, grade-level groups correspond to the grade your child will enter in the upcoming fall semester.

  4. Can I cancel my registration?

    Please note that camps are sold in weekly packages. Prorated refunds will not be given for days your camper does not attend.

    Camp tickets may not be exchanged or gifted. If you need to cancel your registration, please call 214.428.5555, ext. 3, to process your cancellation.

    Cancellations made less than four weeks before camp are not refundable or transferable. We do not offer refunds for camp cancellations.

  5. How should my child dress for camp?

    For safety, we require closed-toed shoes. Your child should wear comfortable clothes that can get messy or wet. Please send a change of clothes if your child is in first grade and younger. The museum is temperature controlled which can vary greatly with the outside temperature. Campers will be both inside and outside for periods of time so plan accordingly.

  6. Should I pack food for my child?

    Yes. Parents and guardians are responsible for providing their children with a lunch and one or two snacks every day. Make sure all food items do not need refrigeration. Send a reusable water bottle to keep your child hydrated throughout the day. Children are not allowed to share food with classmates.

    NEW: We have partnered with Wolfgang Puck Catering to offer lunches (including snacks) for campers. For any lunch questions, you can reach out to katelynn.harvey-campos@wolfgangpuck.com.

  7. What are the qualifications of your educators?

    All camp educators have a college degree or are working towards a degree in the sciences, arts, or education. All educators are certified in basic CPR/first aid and are background checked for working in a childcare setting

  8. What is the typical class size, and how are children supervised?

    Though class sizes will range, they will be no smaller than five and no larger than 23. Each classroom will have two educators, with one to two teen volunteers assisting. A low instructor-to-camp ratio will help ensure that we can maintain proper safety protocols and that your child has the individualized attention they need to enjoy their experience.

  9. What are the behavior expectations for children?

    Children are expected to behave within age-appropriate limits and follow the Museum’s general rules for visiting guests. Expectations are posted in each classroom and are emphasized throughout the week. In the event of a severe behavior problem, we will call you to pick up your child. At our discretion, your child may return to camp the following day.

  10. Who can I contact to leave an emergency message concerning my child during the day?

    Please get in touch with Laura Bowles, camp manager, at 214.756.5831, camps@perotmuseum.org or send a message through the Procare app. If your child has a cell phone with them, it should stay in their backpack during the day. Please do not call your child’s cell phone during scheduled camp times.

BIRDS AND BUGS

June 23-26
Grades 1-4

Look up, down, and all around; birds and bugs surround us. Birds and bugs have each adapted to survive in their own unique ways, from camouflage and flight to feeding strategies. Join us for an outdoor adventure around the Trinity River Audubon Center.

PRAIRIES AND PONDS

June 30-July 3
Grades 1-4

The prairies and ponds of the Trinity River Audubon Center support a variety of wildlife. Grab a microscope to dive into the hidden world of pond water and the tiny life it supports. Journey out to the Blackland Prairie to learn about this Texas habitat and the diverse plants and animals who call it home.

ECOSYSTEMS AND ENERGY

July 7-10
Grades 1-4

The Sun is the primary energy source for plants. Plants are become an energy source for bugs, birds, and other animals. Discover how energy flows through ecosystems from the tiniest leaf to the hungriest predator. At the Trinity River Audubon Center, explore that delicate balance between plants and animals within the local habitats.

NATURE AND NOISE

July 14-17
Grades 1-4

The natural world is alive with sound. What are animals communicating? How do they hear each other? Challenge yourself to identify bird calls and bug sounds. At the Trinity River Audubon Center, you’ll discover the true cacophony of nature and come together to create your own natural orchestra.
