A Talk with Mensun Bound: Finding Shackleton’s Endurance
Saturday, October 31, 2026 | 1:30-2:45pm
Location: The Hoglund Foundation Theater
Join renowned marine archaeologist and fifth-generation Falkland Islander Mensun Bound at the Perot Museum for the firsthand story of the extraordinary expedition that discovered Sir Ernest Shackleton’s long-lost ship, Endurance.
In March 2022, following a 35-day search through the treacherous ice of Antarctica’s Weddell Sea, the wreck was discovered nearly 10,000 feet beneath the surface — upright, remarkably intact, and extraordinarily well preserved. Mensun will take audiences behind the scenes of the expedition, sharing the challenges the team faced, the technology that made the discovery possible, and his lifelong connection to Shackleton. He will then look to the future, exploring how the Atlantic Shackleton Global Foundation is working to keep Shackleton’s legacy alive through Endurance 2 — a next-generation vessel envisioned as a global platform for ocean science, research, conservation, education, and leadership.
From the discovery of Endurance to the vision for Endurance 2, Mensun will take audiences on a journey connecting one of history’s greatest stories of exploration with a bold new chapter for future generations.
The presentation will be followed by an audience Q&A.
Ticket pricing: $18 per person — Each ticket will include one beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) and one snack.
