Mesmerized by the beauty of magnificent minerals? Curious about their origins and want to know more about this incredibly beautiful world? Apply now to be part of our pilot summer workshop all about minerals and designed specifically for teens.

Mineral Workshop August 12-16 from 9am-3pm

Working alongside educators, local collectors, and curators, you will learn how to identify minerals, handling processes, cataloging and photographing collections, and how to curate an exhibit. 

Plus, you'll have the unique opportunity to view educational and private collections as well as take a virtual tour of the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History collection in Connecticut. 

 

7th-10th graders

Mineral Workshop FAQs

  1. What are the registration requirements?

    Registration requirements are for teens that have been accepted into the workshop. Applications are due May 31. Phone interviews will be scheduled for either June 4 or 5. Those accepted will be notified June 7.

    Before you register, you'll need the following information:

    • Your name, birthday, school, medications, allergies, and any special learning needs
    • The grade you will be entering in the fall
    • Immunization records OR school/doctor name and phone number where records are on file
    • Emergency contact(s)
    • Review the Camp Policies and Procedures before beginning the registration process. It is not advised to read through this during registration, as your cart may time out.
  2. How can I be reached if there's an emergency?

    If you have a cell phone, your parent/guardian can contact you directly. If you do not, please have them call the programs office at 214.428.5555 ext. 8 and a staff member will deliver their message to the appropriate person. Be sure to have them indicate you are participating in the Mineral Workshop. 

  3. What is the cancellation policy?

    Cancellations made 4 weeks prior to the start of the workshop will be refunded. We do not offer refunds to cancellations made less than 4 weeks prior to the start of the workshop. 

  4. What are the qualifications of your teachers and assistants?

    Our teachers are either certified teachers with backgrounds in science or science professionals with extensive informal education experience. The majority of our teaching assistants are participants in our youth volunteer program. All teachers are certified in basic CPR/First Aid.
