Annual Dinner in the Wild fundraising event – which is already SOLD OUT – heads to new frontier for celebration of moon, stars, flights of fancy and more

DALLAS (November 3, 2010) – The Museum of Nature & Science will explore new frontiers and blast off in style with its Fly Me To The Moon gala slated for Thursday, November 18, 2010, at the Frontiers of Flight Museum, located at 6911 Lemmon Avenue in Dallas near Love Field Airport. As part of the annual Dinner in the Wild celebration, the 2010 event includes a reception and silent auction at 6 p.m., followed by dinner catered by Chef Kent Rathbun and a live auction at 8 p.m. Attire is cocktail or “space sparkles.” Please note that tickets are SOLD OUT.

The honorary chairs are Emily and David Corrigan, and the event chairs are Henny Wright and Ed Stead. “With our Fly Me To The Moon event, the Museum of Nature & Science celebrates another spectacular year with hundreds of thousands of visitors coming to Fair Park to visit our permanent collection, participate in our many wonderful programs and activities, and view popular traveling exhibits such as ‘Water’, which was on display last summer, and our newly opened blockbuster ‘Dinosaurs Unearthed’,” said Nicole G. Small, CEO of the Museum of Nature & Science. “And excitement continues to grow as we watch the new Perot Museum of
Nature & Science emerge from the ground in Victory Park.”

Dinner in the Wild is the Museum’s primary means of raising money for its education initiatives, including a scholarship program that opens the door for at-risk school children in North Texas to visit the Museum. With a mission of inspiring minds through nature and science, the Museum is dedicated to improving science literacy
among school children and providing an understanding of the natural and man-made world in North Texas.

To create the space-inspired ambience, thousands of twinkly lights accompanied by lighting in deep blue shades will be used to mimic a night sky atmosphere with a star field effect. Images of the universe will be interspersed on the screen with sponsor logos and live auction items. Crystal chandeliers and bliss lights over a navy (instead of red) carpet will lead the way into the dining area. Adding to the décor is the backdrop of vintage airplanes, World War II aircraft and the Orbiter space shuttle, the most complex aircraft ever assembled during the rocket age.

“What could be a better backdrop for our dinner than a place that celebrates the pioneers who realized their earliest dreams of flying…to the close-up look at the latest advance in space travel throughout our solar system?” said Small. “At the heart of this is curiosity, a spirit of discovery…it’s science in its purest form!”

Chef Rathbun will add spice to an already savory night by offering guests a multi-course dinner. Rathbun currently is executive chef of locally and Texas-based restaurants Abacus, Jasper’s, Rathbun’s Blue Plate Kitchen, and his latest Zea Woodfire Grill in Plano. Chef Rathbun has received numerous awards and
national recognition from Bon Appétit to USA Today, The New York Times and Wall Street Journal to NBC’s Today Show andthe Food Network’s “Iron Chef America.”

The evening will include numerous science-and-nature-inspired auction items:
