Evaluation Internship

Interns will work closely with Dr. Rose Jones, a cultural anthropologist, and Director of Evaluation. Interns will assist with various research projects, ranging from conducting beta-testing on UX interactives, ethnographic assessment on visitors’ experiences, and observations/interviews. Interns will assist conducting literature reviews, managing and analyzing data, creating visuals to share data findings, and recruiting participants for studies. This is a hands-on internship which requires excellent people skills and an enthusiasm for social science research and evaluation. Times and dates are flexible.

Creative Design Internship

The Creative Design Intern will be based in the Marketing Department and will report to the Manager of Creative Design.  Interns may also get the opportunity to communicate and work with various Museum departments and develop knowledge of design for website, digital signage, and email.  Selected Interns will gain experience in the design process from conception to print/digital, working with printers and checking a printer’s proof, and in Adobe In-Design, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, Lightroom, and After Effects.  Accepted Interns may also get the opportunity to participate in press checks, communicating across various Museum departments, and develop knowledge of design for website, digital signage, and email.

Professional Development Internship

Professional Development interns will support the STEM Teacher Institute team with day-to-day operations.  The intern will collaborate with the STEAM Teacher Institute team on a regular basis to support communications with teachers, track institute participation, assist in workshop preparation and other duties as needed.  Interns will possess strong communication and organizational skills, attention to detail and the ability to work in a highly collaborative teacher development team.  Professional Development interns will gain experience in expanding a network of over 140 science teachers in North Texas.

Events Internship

Throughout the year the Museum holds hundreds of events after-hours, anywhere from corporate meetings to weddings and proms.  Events interns will assist with the set-up and break-down of events, guide guests to the designated event area, and assist event staff to ensure that the event is run smoothly.  This internship takes place mainly after hours and on weekends.  Events interns will gain experience working with a variety of events, including Museum events such as Social Science, First Thursday, and Discovery Days. Applicants for Events Internships are required to be at least 21 years of age.

Exhibits Internship

Exhibits Interns will be based in the Exhibits Department and will assist the Exhibits Team with day to day activities as well as any special assignments and projects.  The Exhibits Team is responsible for assessing and maintaining the quality and functionality of the museum’s permanent and temporary exhibitions.  Exhibit Interns will primarily assist the Exhibits Team with daily activities in maintaining the working order of all museum exhibitions.  Interns will gain practical experience in the necessary activities required to keep a museum functional. 

Early Childhood Education Internship

Early Childhood Interns are based in the Programs Department and assist the Early Childhood Coordinator with curriculum development, teaching classes as well as engaging our youngest guests in our Art Lab space. The Early Childhood team is responsible for developing and delivering high quality early learning experiences to our guests. Early Childhood Interns will primarily assist the Early Childhood Coordinator with daily activities in the Art Lab and classroom. Interns will gain practical experience in the necessary activities required in curriculum planning and delivery.

Educational Outreach Internship

Educational Outreach interns will assist the education department during outreach science programming to the local community. Interns will assist with program preparation, assisting the educator during the program, and then breaking down supplies and delivering them back to Fair Park.  Interns have the chance to help research and develop materials for the educational outreach program.  This internship will take place on weekdays and typically runs into the early evening hours.  These programs are a fun and exciting opportunity for interns to help children learn and explore science related topics. 

Family and Adult Programs Internship

The Family and Adult Programs intern will assist the Family and Adult Programs staff with planning, research, preparation and implementation of family and adult programming including, but not limited to Discovery Days, Social Science, First Thursday Late Night, community partner programs, lectures and special events.  A schedule of Tuesday – Saturday with occasional evening work is required for this position and will be known in advance. 

Volunteer Services Internship

Volunteer Services interns will directly assist the Volunteer Services department and staff with day-to-day operations of over 1,300 volunteers including volunteer check-in and rounds, recruitment, orientation and onboarding, trainings, and motivating and encouraging current volunteers.  The intern will gain a greater knowledge and understanding of what it takes to maintain and manage an efficient non-profit volunteer program.

Marketing/PR Internship

Marketing/PR interns work directly alongside Museum Marketing and Public Relations staff.  Ideal candidates must be self-motivated and possess some of the following skills: writing experience (AP style), editing experience, Web/HTML knowledge, experience working in a CMS, ability to work with comparative analysis in Excel, familiarity with market research, organization and project management experience, experience in PowerPoint.  Tasks could include: organizing spreadsheets, tracking internet mentions, helping with media and donor gifts, archiving photos, writing drafts for social media and event summaries, proof reading web and print content.

Information Technology Internship

IT interns will assist with various day-to-day operations as well as complex projects within the Museum.  Interns should display proficiency in some of the following skills: Business Intelligence/SQL programming, Windows Active Directory administration, web development (PHP and CMS), and SharePoint customization.  Interns will possess basic knowledge of software and computer imaging, computer repair, Audio Visual issues, media and event setup, and IT support.  IT interns will gain hands-on-experience in a Museum setting working directly with staff.

Discovery Camp Internship

Discovery Camp is comprised of weekly, science-themed sessions for students in kindergarten through 6th grade. Discovery Camp interns will support lead instructors in delivering Summer Discover Camp curriculum, serve as an assistant instructor in after-care classrooms, supervise and facilitate activities for up to 20 children, and assist in the general workload of the education department to ensure the success of Discovery Camp.

Discovery Camp interns should be enrolled in an accredited university working toward a degree in teaching and/or a scientific discipline or mathematics. Basic knowledge and understanding of curriculum development is preferred. The Discovery Camp intern’s schedule will be Monday-Friday (times may vary) with a minimum commitment of four weeks between June 11th, 2018 and August 17th, 2018.
