Blastoff!

Exploration of our expanding universe took center stage as guests traveled to the most amazing places in our solar system during our Portable Universe shows. Solar telescopes out on our Plaza allowed the curious to view and explore life in space. Kids of all ages got to test out their own space experiments and enjoy intergalactic story time and more! Come on out to Discovery Days every month and experience interactive family fun while exploring seriously scientific themes.

Game on!

Families explored sports and fitness at our Discovery Days in May.  Guests enjoyed Stroller Boot Camp, Zumba, Kindertime, yoga, and martial arts classes throughout the day with guest instructors from the YMCA and American Defensive Arts Academy. They also discovered the physics of sports: how our bodies move and jump, how to make the best skating swirls, basketball dunks, and which side of your body is your dominant. There were games and sports experiments to explore and participate in throughout the museum, including Roborama, a robotics tournament that was presented by Dallas Personal Robotics. In June, we will blast off to discover the expanding universe. It will be an out of this world experience you and your family won’t want to miss!

Earth Day Celebration

Earth Day was celebrated with guest scientists, hands-on activities, presentations, and more at Discovery Days on April 13. The day started off with a family yoga class with the Crow Collection of Asian Art. Guests were able to meet amazing creatures from the Dallas Zoo and discover the importance of conservation. Inspiration came through a performance of Professor Wangari Maathai’s I Will Be a Hummingbird by students from S.S. Conner Elementary. There was a special edition of Fire & Ice, Discover the science of fire live auditorium show in partnership with The Big Read Dallas as well as Portable Universe shows to see. Additional activities took place throughout the Museum and included presentations and hands-on learning from the Dallas Arboretum, Oil & Cotton, Cease the Grease, Texas Discovery Gardens and the City of Dallas Office of Environmental Quality.

Delighted Dino Lovers

Dino lovers of all ages delighted in our Discovery Days dedicated to paleontology on March 9! Guests learned fun facts about dinosaurs and life long ago from our guest educators and experts. Family activities included learning to move like a dinosaur, testing adaptation skills, digging for dinos, fossil and collecting methods, learning how dinosaur bones are cast and so much more. Check out the fun that was had  and be sure to join us for a day of exploration at our next Discovery Days!

 Innovation was everywhere!
