Karen MortonKaren Morton

I have been with the Museum since October 1998 when it was the Dallas Museum of Natural History. I started out working in the Exhibits Department and moved to the Collections and Research Department in 2006 when I became the Collections Manager. I have a Master's Degree in Museum Science from Texas Tech University.

As the Collections Manager, I am basically the records keeper for the Museum's collections. I catalog all new acquisitions and track how and where the collections are used (such as whether they are on exhibit, in storage or on loan to another institution). I also monitor the environment of the storage facilities and galleries (temperature/humidity levels and pest control). My favorite specimen in the collection is the burgundy-colored leopard found in the Discovering Life Hall and my least favorite specimens are the cicadas in the entomology collection!
