Position Summary

Engineering Activity Station Volunteers assist guests with the hands-on experiments and activities, programming and logistics of this interactive exhibit located in the Engineering Hall. These experiments and activities are typically created by Perot Museum staff. You may have the opportunity to contribute to the development of new experiences under the guidance of assigned staff.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with Museum guests in the Engineering Activity Station, providing assistance with the experiments, demonstrations and information
  • Assist with guest questions regarding exhibits and general museum information
  • Assist with monitoring and controlling the station public and school visitor activity
  • Assist with daily operations, including but not limited to clean-up procedures, restocking of supplies and reporting maintenance needs
  • Report consistent Activity Station attendance records

Skills and Abilities

  • High level of enthusiasm and initiative
  • Interest in and/or knowledge of science, especially Engineering and related fields
  • Ability to clearly communicate information and activities with guests of various ages and backgrounds
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Flexibility and spontaneity
  • Consistent, punctual, and able to work with minimal supervision

Training required

  • Orientation: 4 hours
    • Orientations held monthly
    • Sign up for orientation of choice at initial interview
  • Training: 2 hours

Assignment Schedule

The usual shift schedules are listed below:

  • Monday-Saturday: 9:30amam-1:30pm and 1:00pm-5:00pm
  • Sunday: 11:30am-2:30pm and 2:00pm-5:00pm
  • First Thursday of each month: 4:30am-9:00pm

Time Commitment

Two shifts per month (8 hours) for a period of one year.
